About The Cambridgeshire ULO

About the Cambridgeshire ULO

We are an organisation run by and for people with support needs.

Our overall aim is to:

Enable people with support needs to shape and direct the services

they need to live the life they choose

Our start up has been supported by a wide range of people and organisations who all want to find new ways for people with support needs to get together and have a stronger voice and workfor equal rights and fair access to services.

We are doing this now because there are significant changes happening in the way in which people are able to access support to meet their day to day needs with the introduction of self directed support (also called personal budgets and individual budgets).

In this section you can find out more about our plans for the future and how we are organised.

It has taken a lot of hard work to get us where we are today and we are very grateful to all the people and organisations that have supported us and special mention must go to:

  • The Department of Health for funding to research and set up as a new organisation
  • The Essex Coalition of Disabled People for mentoring and encouraging us
  • Speaking Up, Lifecraft and West Anglia Crossroads Caring for Carers who helped us form a company and develop our business plan
  • All the individuals who took part in our steering group and consultation events and gave their ideas and effort so generously

If you would like to find out more about how we got started please take a look in the resources section of this menu. You will also find there plenty of documents which can be downloaded which may also be of use to your organisation if you are trying to start up a new organisation.
